ABOUT UGC-NET

The primary objective of UGC NET is to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor and/or for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

Eligibility Criteria:

For Assistant Professor: Candidates must have a master's degree or its equivalent from recognized universities/institutions with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for reserved categories).

For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor: Candidates must not be more than 30 years old as of the first day of the month in which the examination is conducted (relaxation in age limit for reserved categories as per government norms).

Exam Pattern:

The UGC NET exam consists of two papers: Paper I and Paper II.

Paper I is common for all candidates and tests general teaching and research aptitude. It contains 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each carrying 2 marks.

Paper II consists of questions based on the subject chosen by the candidate. It contains 100 MCQs, each carrying 2 marks.

Both papers are conducted in separate sessions, and candidates have to complete Paper I and Paper II within the specified time limit.

Syllabus:

Paper I: Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Communication, Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), People, and Environment. Paper II: The syllabus for Paper II is based on the subject chosen by the candidate. It covers topics from the respective subject's curriculum at the postgraduate level.

Selection Process:

Candidates who qualify for the for the UGC NET are eligible for the post of Assistant Professor and/or for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

Qualified candidates are required to fulfill additional eligibility criteria specified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and respective universities/colleges for recruitment to the Assistant Professor post.
