ABOUT CTET

CTET aims to ensure that individuals intending to enter the teaching profession possess the essential skills, knowledge, and aptitude required to meet the challenges of teaching at the primary and upper primary levels.

Eligibility Criteria:

For Primary Stage (Classes I-V): Candidates must have completed or be in the final year of their Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) or equivalent.

For the Elementary Stage (Classes VI–VIII), candidates must have completed or be in the final year of their Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent.

Structure of CTET:

CTET consists of two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is for candidates aspiring to teach Classes I to V (Primary Stage). Paper II is for candidates aspiring to teach Classes VI to VIII (Elementary Stage). Candidates interested in teaching at both levels need to appear for both Paper I and Paper II.

Syllabus:

The syllabus for both papers includes: Child Development and Pedagogy: Understanding Child Development and Pedagogical Concepts.

Language I: Proficiency in the medium of instruction chosen by the candidate. Language II: Proficiency in a language other than Language I. Mathematics: Concepts, problem-solving abilities, and pedagogical understanding of the subject (for Paper I).

Environmental Studies: Concepts related to environmental science, social studies, and pedagogical understanding of the subject (for Paper I).

Mathematics and Science or Social Studies/Social Science: Concepts and pedagogical understanding of the subjects (for Paper II) Examination Pattern:

CTET consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with each question carrying one mark.

The duration of the examination is 2 hours and 30 minutes for each paper. There are typically 150 questions in each paper. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Passing Criteria:

To qualify for CTET, candidates need to secure a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/Differently Abled need to score a minimum of 55% marks to qualify.

Validity of CTET Certificate: The CTET eligibility certificate is valid for a period of seven years from the date of the declaration of the result.

Candidates can appear for CTET examinations multiple times to improve their scores or upgrade their qualifications.
